Frome is a town with a powerful social conscience. It became a Fairtrade town on 11th March 2003 & Fairtrade fortnight 2011 saw many events through out the town including a visit from a Caribbean Fairtrade banana farmer. In this humbling film he tells how our shopping habits & purchases shape the opportunities & prosperity of his community in the Caribbean.
What it Fairtrade? Fairtrade is about alleviating poverty in many developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. It is important because it guarantees a fair wages for agricultural workers and a social premium for communities to spend on health, education and community projects.
Since Frome became a Fairtrade town we have always promoted the view: “If at all possible, buy local produce, if not, buy Fairtrade”.
